Our story…
Whole Family Health Center (WFHC) has grown from a grassroots initiative into a leading nonprofit community health center on Florida’s Treasure Coast. Originally founded in Fort Pierce as the AIDS Research and Treatment Center of the Treasure Coast (ARTCTC), WFHC was established by Dr. Gerald Pierone, a board-certified Infectious Disease Specialist dedicated to addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic in underserved communities.
Under Dr. Pierone’s continued leadership as Chief Medical Officer, WFHC has expanded its mission to meet the evolving health needs of our region. While we remain a trusted leader in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted infections, we now offer a broad range of integrated healthcare services, including primary care, women’s health, behavioral health, and pharmacy with delivery services.
For nearly three decades, WFHC has remained committed to reducing health disparities, improving access to care, and delivering high-quality, compassionate services to individuals and families across Indian River and St. Lucie Counties. What began as a single-focus clinic has become a vital healthcare home for thousands of patients each year.

Leading Through the COVID-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Whole Family Health Center became a trusted leader in our community by providing drive-up testing, weekend vaccine clinics, and operating Vero Beach’s only dedicated Monoclonal Antibody Treatment Center. Through our research partner, The Pierone Research Institute, we also collaborated with the NIH and NIAID on critical clinical trials to advance COVID-19 treatment and prevention.
